Ari Robin McKenna once suspected that almost everything he heard about the rest of the world was skewed, so he left for nine years to live on continents that don’t subscribe to western culture, and now he’s back in the USA, and writing the education beat for the South Seattle Emerald.

Born in Jamaica Plain, Boston, Ari went to The New School in Manhattan before getting his masters at Brooklyn College as a New York City Teaching Fellow. His teaching career lasted a decade and a half and took him from Crown Heights, Brooklyn; to Douala, Cameroon; to Busan, South Korea and finally to Seattle’s South End, where he is now settled with his partner Nati.

Before the pandemic, Ari enjoyed reading, hiking, edible gardening, watching the beautiful game, taking the Link out into Seattle nights and the (more than) occasional BBQ.
